Portrait of a Bride, an Evolving Silhouette

Join us for the celebratory kick-off to the Largo Public Library's series of Centennial Events.

The City of Largo celebrates the 100-year anniversary of Largo Public Library with a Centennial Series of events from October 2015 through April 2016.

Largo Public Library was established by the Largo Woman’s Club on April 7, 1916. The original Library Committee consisted of such locally famous names as Mrs. D. F. Judkins, Mrs. W. F. Belcher, Mrs. J. T. Jackson, Mrs. W. M. Ulmer, and Mrs. Ann McMullen. To encourage support for the new library, a large camphor tree located in the heart of downtown Largo became the β€œChristmas Giving Tree.” Underneath the tree, enthusiastic residents left books, magazines, and even wood for building bookshelves and other furnishings.

To honor the original members, Largo Public Library invites the current Largo Woman’s Club and the public to attend the kick-off event for the Centennial Series - Portrait of a Bride, An Evolving Silhouette. This event focuses on the ever-evolving history of the American woman, Victorian era to present. The program includes a tea time and display of 25-30 antique, vintage, and contemporary wedding gowns presented on dress forms in sequential order with emphasis on the historical aspects of each era. Free tickets to this event are available at Largo Public Library.
