Punk Rock, Metal Lives on at Beer Goggles

The Defiant 

St. Petersburg's metal purveyors The Defiant brought its hardcore sound to a packed house ready to mosh at Beer Goggles Oct. 7.

The Defiant promptly took the stage at midnight as the headlining act and began cranking out huge riffs that owed just as much to metal as it did New York hardcore and punk rock.

The audience reacted well to the setlist which included songs including "Demigod," "Hellride," and "The Contract."

The group even dedicated the track, "Porn Star" to all the women in the audience.

"This one is for the all the girls out there. The Defiant love the girls," said lead singer Craig Corr.

The Saturday night performance covered a wide range of styles ranging from punk to sludge-rock and attracted music fanatics of all types.

Formed in 2009, The Defiant recently released its 10 song, self-titled debut LP.

Dead Superstar

Dead Superstar, from Long Island, New York, performed for a packed house of hard rock fans at Beer Goggles Saturday (Oct. 1).

The national act took Clearwater by storm on the early October leg of its Florida tour.

Other bands on the Saturday night bill included Bullets and SunshineLove Burn DieFight Another Day, and Love In War. They all played their own brand of hard edged Rock 'n Roll.

Dead Superstar was formed in 2006 by lead vocalist Terence Keith in the ashes of his former band,Perseverance along with bassist Troi Mosby.

According to the group's SoundCloud page, "Their passion to perform and create great music ignited a fire in them to create a powerful sound that would be heavy enough to please the hardest headbanger, but rocking enough to crossover to the masses."

The event also marked the offical grand opening of Seminole's newest vintage punk rock boutique,Anarchist Closet. The freshly stocked store specializes in "used and abused" punk, metal and goth garb.

Big City Bombers 

Orlando's Big City Bombers headlined one of Beer Goggle's most well-attended shows to date Saturday (Sept. 24).

Other bands on the bill included, The ScurvyNo LovesThe Free Market Anarchists, and Press 1 For English all performed throughout the evening as well.

With such an action packed line-up, it was nearly 2 a.m. by the time Big City Bomber's ripped through their set. As the band took the stage they asked the audience, "Who likes to party on Saturday night in Largo?" and then began to immediately hammer out their list of Swingin' Utters-inspired punk rock.

The  made an appearance at the concert for team member Spyro's Birthday celebration. The Loud, Fast, and Sh@#%y Radio Show was also on the grounds showing their support all night broadcasting the punk rock performances along with interviews from the scene during the various band's intermissions.

Doors opened for the event at 9 p.m. with a cover charge of $5 for concert-goers over 21 years old. Next up on the horizon, Beer Googles is hosting a new night called "Bands & Babes" Wednesday (Sept. 28).
