It's that energy that impressed his previous science teacher at Pinellas Preparatory Academy (PPA).
"Richard was in my homeroom in an advanced physical science class. He excelled in science and became one of my most active and enthusiastic students that year...Richard made the transition quite easily into a a Magnet Program, First Responders. Not only did he transition easily, but he was a prime candidate for honors classes," said Suzanne Mizzi, PPA's eighth-grade science teacher.
Richard is an active athlete who enjoys soccer, baseball, track and basketball. In fact, he played on all those teams at PPA.
"Richard became a strong team player, in class and all around the school. Sports helped him realize how important each individual is to the team. He was always the first to jump in to help a player or coach," said Betty-Lou Romaine, PPA's athletic director.
Richard's kindness and generosity can be seen in his actions. He continues to be a member of PPA's travel club and volunteers daily at the school to raise funds for their summer trip to Greece. He is the driving force behind the fundraiser and hopes to help fray travel costs for all the club members.
It's a genuine caring that's sure to be part of his future.
Richard's career plans are to be a firefighter or emergency medical technician (EMT).
