Shop Owner Foils Robbery Attempt

When a would-be robber pulls a gun on a Largo convenience store owner, the tables are quickly turned.

The owner of a Steve's Qwik Mart used his own weapon to thwart a would-be robber Saturday, according to a Largo Police Department press release.

Reporterdly, at 11:45am, he saw a suspicious-looking man hanging around outside his business at 7500 Ulmerton Rd.

The man then walked into the store after a few minutes of loitering. According to Largo Police, he lifted his shirt, exposing a gun with a black handle. The shop owner took out his own firearm and aimed it at the suspect, who then fled.

Police are now looking for a black male described as 18-20 years old, between 5'9 and 5'11" and 150-170 lbs. He was reportedly dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

This is the second robbery attempt Steve's Qwik Mart his seen in less than three weeks.

Police are asking anybody who may have been in the area at the time of the attempted robbery and might have seen the suspect fleeing, or has any other knowledge of the incident, to contact the department's Investigative Services Division at (727) 587-6730.
