Spring Breakers Sing and Dance in Project Broadway

Children learned how to walk and talk like various characters, got audition tips and practiced their dance steps at an intensive theatre workshop at the last week.

The center's first spring theatre camp served as a fun way to practice performance skills before summer theatre. Fifteen children from ages 9-14 participated in the show with a focus on music from Broadway musicals.

Spring break camper Ashton, who is in fourth grade, has been in theatre for four years. He said he learned theatre etiquette at the spring camp.

"Theatre etiquette is theatre politeness. You are not to talk when others are talking or on stage. We learned when to give applause and not to boo," Ashton said.

Ashton shared his favorite musical is Cinderella and he loves to perform, but he also like to be outside and ride bikes.

"Theatre is one of my best hobbies. I like to be watched and I like to show other people my talents and what I've done," Ashton said.

Seventh-grader Veronika said, she loves to sing, dance and act. Camp was a great learning experience with wonderful teachers and she would recommend people considering summer camp to go for it, Veronika said.

"You get to sing and dance and do what you like to do. You get to meet new friends that share your interests. You get to experience, what it feels like to perform in a show," Veronika said.

Largo native Domenic Bisesti led the camp. As a child he participated actively in Largo's recreation programs. About two years ago the 26-year-old returned to Largo after five years working as an actor in Los Angeles, Bisesti said.

"I always had such fond memories of the center. Everyone has such a passion here for theatre. I was here when the (Largo Cultural Center) opened (in 1996)," Bisesti said.

"It is really cool to be back. I am having fun. I get to relay some of the things taught to me here and share with a new generation. Largo Recreation is a very, passionate department. We are giving the best we can to our residents," Bisesti said.

Coming this Summer:

Seussical Jr.

• June 11-29 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
• For Ages 8-13
• This fun show based on Dr. Seuss characters centers around Horton the Elephant. But the show offers many different characters and plenty of opportunities for children to shine and have fun, Bisesti said.
• The summer campers will perform the show on June 29 at 7 p.m. and June 30 at 11 a.m.

The Music Man Jr.

• July 16- August 3 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
• For Ages 12-18
• The classical musical about the fast-talking traveling salesman who falls in love with the town librarian is adapted to a one-hour show. For older youth the musical offers more, difficult music and more characters , Bisesti said.
• The summer campers will perform the show on August 3 at 7 p.m. and August 4 at 11 a.m.

Play! Unplugged

• Largo offers more than 60 full and half-day camps.  This year's theme is Play! Unplugged. Parents can select from full day camps, sports camps, aquatic camps, theatre camps and more. There are camps for all ages from preschool to teenage children.
