Weekend Things to Do: Little Olympians, Family Fishing, Children's Theater

You'll have a hard time choosing what to do this weekend. The first of October is bursting with family fun activities. It's the first full weekend of the month, which means it's miniature train weekend. Head to Largo Central Park and ride the rails from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. 

You'll have plenty to pick from this weekend. Enjoy children's theater, kids' Olympics, fishing, treasure seeking and a farewell party to a soap opera star. 

Nearby in St. Petersburg, you'll enjoy Folk Fest, an art fest with 50 local artists, a dozen musical performers and new art by Creative Clay artists.

Family Fishing Fun Day

Take the kids fishing in this free family event. Bring your personal gear, or borrow their poles. Bait and poles are provided. They could even win a prize -- for first fish, largest fish, second largest fish, third largest fish, smallest fish or most multiple catches.

Little Olympians

Olympics aren't just for the big kids. Little ones, ages three to six years old, will get a chance to show off their big talents in events, such as big wheels, bean bag throw, 50-yard dash and hurdles. Every participant will receive an Olympic medal and t-shirt.

Soap Opera Farewell Party

Folkfest: St. Petersburg

Creative Clay's fifth anniversary of Folkfest offers plenty of music, arts and fun. More than 50 artists will showcase their work, while a dozen musical performers are on hand to entertain you. Creative Clay artists will create new pieces this weekend. You'll have a choice of food, drink and fun with a variety of food vendors, a beer garden, a VIP area and a family area for children's activities.
