What You Need to Know About First Time School Registration
Pinellas County public schools opened registration for incoming kindergarteners. Here's what you need to know about the process.
Registration for incoming kindergarteners and other new students in Pinellas County is now open. For first timers this process can be a stressful experience. Not knowing where to go, what documents to have and what deadlines to meet, is daunting. The district urges parents to register their children for the 2011-12 school year by June 3.
Largo Patch is here to help ease you into the process. Here’s what you need to know about first time registration.
- Open enrollment is from April 4-18.
- The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 22, 2011.
- Students must be five years old on or before Sept.1, 2011, to attend kindergarten.
- Find your child’s school using the Zone School Locator on the district website, www.pcsb.org. It’s located under PCSNews. You can also call the Student Assignment office at (727) 588-6210.
- Students entering kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades will be assigned to their zoned school.
- Visit the school and get a user ID and password.
- Get familiar with the Student Reservation System (SRS), located on the home page of the district website, www.pcsb.org. With the SRS you can keep track of your child’s assignment information. It also allows you to enroll them in school, change their address, or request a different school during open enrollment. This system is available in both English and Spanish.
