2 Men Arrested In Connection With A Dade City Shooting Wednesday

DADE CITY, FL — An 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old man have been arrested in connection to a shooting Wednesday afternoon that killed a father and injured his 11-year-old son and a 16-year-old girl.

The Pasco sheriff's office said Demetrius Roberts, 18, was identified as one of the people involved in the shooting. He was arrested Thursday and charged with delinquent in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.

The on Friday, the sheriff's office arrested Julian Zayas, 19. He's charged with aggravated assault. The sheriff's office said Zayas pointed a gun and threatened to shoot the victim. He lives in the Johns Road area where a fight broke out Wednesday around 1 p.m. between two teenage girls in the Johns Road area off River Road in Dade City.

Detectives said they believe Zayas' aggravated assault contributed to the events leading up to the shooting.

According to Pasco County Sheriff's Maj. Jeffrey Peake, a number of people gathered to watch the teen girls fight. At some point, one or more people began firing a gun, he said.

The 11-year-old boy, his father and a 16-year-old girl were among the spectators.

The sheriff's office said both children are expected to recover from injuries that are not life-threatening.

The sheriff's office is still investigating. Detectives have yet to charge anyone with the homicide of the father.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477) and could be eligible for a reward.
