19-Year-Old Tampa Man Killed When Car Crashed Into Semi Truck

A 19-year-old man was killed Friday when the car he was riding in crashed into a tractor-trailer truck on County Road 54 east of Zephyhills.

PASCO COUNTY, FL — A 19-year-old Tampa man was killed Friday when the car he was riding in crashed into a tractor-trailer truck on County Road 54 east of Zephyrhills.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 12:32 p.m., a car driven by a 20-year-old Tampa woman was headed east on County Road 54 approaching Howard Boulevard.

A tractor-trailer truck driven by a 32-year-old Haines City man was traveling east ahead of the car and a tractor-trailer truck driven by a 36-year-old Brooksville man was heading west on County Road 54.

According to troopers, the 20-year-old woman attempted to pass the truck ahead and saw the approaching truck. She attempted to return to the eastbound lane and collided with the oncoming truck.

The car rotated to the shoulder, hit a guardrail and was redirected into the path of the westbound truck, which struck the left side of the car.

The 19-year-old died at the scene. The driver and another passenger in the car, a 20-year-old Tampa man, were seriously injured.
