25-Year-Old Tampa Woman Dies When Car Struck From Rear

ZEPHYRHILLS, FL -- A 25-year-old Zephyrhills woman has died following an accident Wednesday, Jan. 2, on U.S. 301 in Pasco County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 6:25 a.m. Timothy Hurt, 32, of Zephyrhills was traveling north in a Mitsubishi SUV on U.S. 301, approaching Chancey Road.

Destiny Grooms was also driving north on U.S. 301 in a Nissan Altima when she slowed to turn into the Zephyrhills Correctional Institution at 2739 Gall Blvd.

Troopers say Hurt failed the see Grooms slow down in front of him and collided with the rear of her car. Grooms' Nissan was propelled into the path of a Nissan pickup truck driven by Adrian Vazquez Gonzalez, 32, of Tampa.

Grooms was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital where she died.

Hurt, Gonzalez and Hurt's passenger, Willie Wiggs, 53, of Temple Terrace were treated for minor injuries.
