81-Year-Old Man Killed After Crashing Into Construction Barrier, Road Excavator Tuesday

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — An 81-year-old Tampa man has died and his 13-year-old passenger is in serious condition following a crash on Wiregrass Ranch Boulevard Wednesday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 9:23 p.m., the Tampa man was driving an Infiniti G20 south on Wiregrass Ranch Boulevard, approaching a private driveway at 28500 State Road 54 in an area under construction.

Troopers said he failed to stop where the road ends and collided first with a construction barrier fence and then a John Deere construction excavator.

He died at the scene.
