CLEARWATER, FL — Clearwater Police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run crash that struck two motorcycles, leaving one motorcyclist in critical condition.
On Friday around 6:30 p.m., two motorcycles were headed east on State Road 590, and stopped to wait to turn left on Lucas Drive. The driver of a BMW also was headed east on State Road 590 when she failed to stop drove into the back of the motorcycles. The driver got out of the BMW briefly before getting back in and driving away, leaving the two motorcyclists in the road.
One motorcyclist, Lawrence Eliachar, 62, remains in critical condition at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. The other motorcyclist was treated and released at the scene.
Paula Rowe, 47, called Clearwater Police just before 8 a.m. and turned herself in, nearly 12 hours after she struck two motorcyclists. She was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving injury and booked intot he Pinellas County Jail.

Rowe said she left the scene because she was scared. When her car broke down after the crash, she had it towed to her apartment complex on U.S. 19.
