The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that left body parts scattered across U.S. 301; the driver fled.

DADE CITY, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian Sunday morning that left body parts scattered onto U.S. 301 in Dade City.

Around 3:30 a.m., troopers encountered a gruesome scene when they responded to an accident call on U.S. 301 south of Desrosier Road in Dade City.

A silver or white sedan traveling north on U.S. 301 had driven off the highway onto the east shoulder of the road where it collided with a traffic sign. The car drove back onto U.S. 301 and then swerved onto the shoulder a second time, striking a 49-year-old Dade City woman who was walking along the grass shoulder.

Ignoring commands to stop, the driver, who was later identified as Andrew Thomas Krummen, 23, of Dade City, continued into the crime scene, striking two sheriff's deputies and running over the severed legs.

Troopers chased after Krummen for about 10 minutes, catching up to him at County Road 788 and State Road 471 in Webster after troopers put a device across the road to blow out the tires of Krummen's pickup truck.

Krummen was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle upon a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding, destruction of evidence, driving while his license was revoked and false imprisonment of Krummen’s two passengers, a 33-year-old Brooksville man and 35-year-old Dade City woman, who troopers said were trying to flag them down and exit the vehicle.
