LUTZ, FL -- A menagerie of pets including a pot-bellied pig were in peril when a home on Holly Lake Place in Lutz caught fire Wednesday morning, Jan. 23.
According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, firefighters arrived at the home to find flames shooting through the roof. Because the house was located in an area that doesn't have county water, firefighters had to douse the flames using tanker trucks.
The homeowners weren't at home at the time. However, firefighters discovered a number of pets inside the home. They were able to rescue three of the seven dogs inside. Two were revived with CPR and one with a pet oxygen mask. Four of the six cats inside survived as did the pot-bellied pig. A cockatee and a rabbit perished in the fire.
