Former Gaither Teacher Arrested on Child Porn Charges

The Lutz man was arrested Wednesday morning.

A 68-year-old retired schoolteacher from Lutz faces child pornography charges after Tampa police recently came into possession of an iPod he owns.

David Giberson of 862 Warren Road was arrested early Wednesday morning on seven counts of possession of child pornography, according to the Tampa Police Department.

The case against him began to take shape after an iPod with “questionable images” was turned into Hillsborough County School Security. Officers obtained a search warrant for the device and a FDLE analysis turned up “several hundred images of young boys” on the iPod, an email from the Tampa Police Department stated.

At that point, the iPod’s owner was unknown, but the device was eventually traced back to Giberson.

Working with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Tampa police obtained a search warrant for Giberson’s home. That warrant was served Wednesday morning.

Giberson admitted the iPod was his, police said.

Giberson worked as an English teacher at Gaither High School in Northdale until 2010 when he retired from the classroom to work as a peer evaluator for the county, according to The Tampa Tribune. He has since resigned from that position, the paper reported.

Following the arrest, Giberson was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. He was later released on $14,000 bond.

None of the photos on the iPod were of children from the school district, the Tribune reported.
