Lutz Man Arrested After 4-Hour Standoff With SWAT Team

LUTZ, FL --The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office successfully ended a SWAT standoff in Lutz early Tuesday morning after a suicidal man reportedly stabbed himself and his mother.

Around 1:30 a.m., Aug. 21, deputies responded to a 911 call in the 19000 block of Garden Quilt Circle in Lutz about a suicide attempt. Upon arrival,

deputies learned that Serkan Ceylani, 31, had armed himself with a screwdriver and stabbed his mother, Hulya Ceylani, 67, multiple times in her upper torso.

He then barricaded himself inside the bathroom of the home he shares with his parents, his wife and two sons, ages 6 and 11.

The mother was transported to St Joseph's Hospital in stable condition.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, Bomb Squad and Crisis Negotiations Team were called out to the scene around 1:50 a.m.

All efforts were made to negotiate with Ceylani from outside the bathroom door, but he eventually stopped communicating with negotiators. Deputies, therefore, broke through the window of the bathroom to reach Ceylani and used tear gas to subdue him.

Once deputies were inside the bathroom, Ceylani continued to be uncooperative, so deputies used a taser on him. He was placed in custody following the four-hour standoff.

Ceylani was transported by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue to St. Joseph's Hospital as a trauma alert.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are forthcoming.
