Lutz Man Killed In School Bus Crash

LUTZ, FL — A 72-year-old Lutz man is dead following a Tuesday afternoon accident involving a Hillsborough County school bus.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Harry Wilson was walking on the north side of Sinclair Hills Road, just west of 24th St. N., around 4:05 p.m. At that time, a bus driven by Miguel Leonidas Ardila-Polo, 36, also of Lutz, was heading west on Sinclair Hills with two students on board.

Deputies say Wilson stumbled off the sidewalk when the bus passed and went into the roadway. Ardila-Polo saw the man stumble and tried to swerve left. The right rear of the bus, however, ended up striking Wilson and knocking him to the ground.

Wilson suffered head injuries and was taken to Florida Hospital where he later died.

No students were injured, deputies say.

“Alcohol is suspected to have contributed to the pedestrian’s actions,” an email from the sheriff’s office said.

The crash remains under investigation.
