Man Struck, Killed While Laying On Bruce B. Downs Highway

LUTZ. FL -- A 57-year-old man died when he was struck by a vehicle while laying in the southbound lanes of Bruce B. Downs Highway.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, on Sunday around 9 p.m. Minguelina A. Schonhert, 60, was driving a Toyota Tundra on Bruce B. Downs Highway about 800 feet south of 121st Avenue when she hit a man laying in the road. The man, Thomas Vinson Oliver, was transported to AdventHealth where he was pronounced dead.

Oliver had been picked up by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue earlier in the evening when he was found laying on Fletcher Avenue. He was transported to James A. Haley Veterans Hospital where he refused medical treatment and left the hospital on foot.

Fifteen minutes later, he was struck while laying on Bruce B. Downs.

Deputies believe he may have been struck by more than one vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 813-247-8200.
