Move over Little League here comes Lutz Baseball!

On January 1, 2014 a new era begins. Lutz Little League will change to “Lutz Baseball” and re-charter as Cal Ripken / Babe Ruth to join six other Tampa area Little Leagues in recent months to do so. The impact of travel-teams taking players, Little League’s inflexibility, old-fashioned rules and constricted boundaries are common themes throughout and responsible for changing the landscape as we know it.

“The advantage of Cal Ripken / Babe Ruth is broader league boundaries, playing the “real” rules of baseball, and most importantly, the teaching of advanced skills which will enable greater player growth. From Tee Ball (age 4-5) through Big League (age 16-18) a child who enters the league at Tee Ball will now be appropriately coached to play baseball as we know it…” said Dave Crawford Lutz Baseball league President. “…the dual benefit being; the players learn significantly earlier compared to Little League, they’ll receive progressive instruction needed to qualify and compete at higher levels, and the league benefits by keeping its travel-team players home”.
