Witnesses said David James Badamo of Hathaway Drive was at the On the Rocks bar at 9107 Ridge Road, New Port Richey, when he got into an argument with his estranged wife.
Witnesses said he hit her on the side of the head with an open hand, pushed her into a wall, chased her and struck her with an empty 5-gallon plastic bucket. When she tried to hide behind the bar, deputies said Badamo began throwing 12 glass ashtrays at her. In the process, he broke 27 bottles of top-shelf liquor, 25 drinking glasses, an electric sign and a bar stool that he threw at a patron who tried to come to the woman's defense.
He was eventually restrained by a patron until deputies arrived. He was taken to Bayonet Point Medical Center to be treated for a possible broken nose sustained by another patron who tried to prevent him from harming his former wife. While there, he tried to escape from deputies.
The sheriff's office said he caused about $2,000 worth of damage at the bar.
