Resource Officer's Gun Accidentally Discharges At Pasco School

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL -- The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is looking into how a school resource officer's gun accidentally discharged Tuesday, April 30 at a Wesley Chapel middle school.

According to the sheriff's office, the school resource officer was in the cafeteria of Weightman Middle School, 30649 Wells Road, leaning against a wall when his holstered, duty-issued firearm discharged into the wall behind him.

There were no injuries to students, staff or the officer involved.

The SRO involved has been placed on paid administrative leave effective immediately, pending the conclusion of the investigation.
