PASCO COUNTY, FL — A 53-year-old St. Petersburg bicyclist has died after being struck by a pickup truck Sunday on U.S. 301 near Vinson Avenue.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 2:26 p.m., Melissa Ann Beckham was riding her bike north on U.S. 301 approaching Vinson Avenue when she entered the path of a Ford F250 pickup truck driven by Herman L. James, 73, of Thonotosassa.

Troopers said James tried to take evasive action but couldn't prevent colliding with the bicyclist.

Beckham was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where she died.
