K9s Track Man Accused In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash, Carjacking
A Wesley Chapel man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash and a carjacking on State Road 54.
WESLEY CHAPEL, FL β After several hours of searching during which Hillsborough County Sheriff's K9s tracked through woods and a canal, a Wesley Chapel man was apprehended Saturday night in connection with a hit-and-run crash and a carjacking on State Road 54 and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard Saturday morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 7:26 a.m., Cody Sterling Bearry, 31, of Woodsman Drive in Wesley Chapel was driving a Dodge Dakota pickup truck east on State Road 54 when he ran a red light at the intersection of Bruce B. Downs and struck a motorcycle ridden by Angel Rodriguez Fiallos, 26, of Wesley Chapel.
Troopers said Bearry then struck a Nissan Altima driven by Fritz Desrosiers, 38, of Wesley Chapel. The impact sent the Nissan spinning into a Kia Forte driven by James Falasca, 55, of Wesley Chapel.

Troopers said Bearry and his passenger, Breanna Lynn Wright, 23, of Dade City, ran from the scene to the nearby Wawa at 28225 S.R. 54, where they carjacked a Saturn and sped away east on S.R. 54.
Fiallos was taken to AdventHealth where he died of his injuries. Desrosiers received minor injuries. Falasca was not injured.

The crash closed several lanes of S.R. 54 and portions of the intersection for several hours.
On Saturday afternoon, Pasco County Sheriff's deputies spotted the stolen Saturn and began pursuing the car into Hillsborough County. Bearry eventually stopped the Saturn near the 6600 block of Knights-Griffin Road in Thonotosassa. Wright was taken into custody at the scene but Bearry ran away and was on the run for several hours before he was finally apprehended.
