Teen Driving 114 MPH Before Crash Charged With Double Homicide: FHP

A 17-year-old from Wesley Chapel was charged Friday in a fatal crash on Jan. 19 that killed two people.

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — A 17-year-old from Wesley Chapel was charged Friday in a fatal crash on Jan. 19 that killed two people.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 52-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman from Wesley Chapel were headed east on State Road 56 in a Nissan Rogue when they tried to turn left at the intersection of Lajuana Boulevard.

While turning, troopers said the couple was struck by a 17-year-old who traveling west on State Road 56 at 114 mph in Honda Accord.

The Rogue flipped over and three the driver from the vehicle although he was wearing a seat belt. Both the Rogue driver and the passenger were wearing seat belts. They both died at the scene.

The teen suffered serious injuries, according to the FHP.

Troopers said the teenager, Memphis James Frizell, was making lane changes at the time of the crash and struck the Rogue at a speed of 100 mph. He's been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.
