Videos: 19-Year-Old Caretaker Accused Of Abusing 88-Year-Old Man

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A 19-year-old caretaker was arrested after being accused of physically abusing an 88-year-old man in his charge.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested Jonah Delgado of Pasco County Wednesday.

The sheriff's office said Delgado was the on-duty caretaker for the elderly man who required full-time care.

Home surveillance video showed Delgado slapping the man's face and yelling at him. Delgado was also placed the man in a wheelchair where he hit him multiple times in the face, head and stomach, according to the sheriff's office.

Later, the sheriff's office said Delgado pushed the man into a bed and punched him in the stomach three times.

"The actions of this man are deplorable, unacceptable and disturbing," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Delgado was trusted to take care of this man and to protect him. He not only broke this trust but put this man in direct danger with his actions. I am very proud of our detectives who worked quickly to get this man in custody before he could hurt anyone else."

Delgado was charged with abuse of an elderly or disabled adult and battery.
