Watch: Fleeing Zephyhills Man Shoots At Pasco Deputies

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office arrested a 19-year-old Zephyrhills man for attempted murder after he fired a gun at deputies.

ZEPHYRHILLS, FL -- The Pasco County Sheriff's Office arrested a 19-year-old Zephyrhills man for attempted murder after he fired a gun at deputies from a speeding vehicle.

At 11 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, deputies were following up on a tip concerning the whereabouts of Chase Johnson of Meadowood Loop, who is wanted for armed home invasion robbery and carjacking.

As Sgt. Robert Medina and Cpl. Scott Conner were driving south on Ryals Road, they passed Johnson who was driving a vehicle north on Ryals Road. When he saw the deputies, Johnson accelerated and struck the side of Conner's sheriff's vehicle.

Several sheriff's units set up stop sticks in key locations to deflate the tires of Johnson's vehicle. Johnson drove over stop sticks at Ryals Road and State Road 54 while Medina and Cpl. Jeremy Hershelman pursued him. Despite flattened tired, Johnson continued west on SR 54 and north on Golf Links Boulevard.

At Golf Links Boulevard and Links Lane, Johnson reportedly pulled out a handgun and began shooting at deputies from the driver's side window.

Medina rammed Johnson's vehicle several times in an effort to stop him but Johnson continued south on Eiland Boulevard for several hundred yards and then ran off the road into a pond.

Deputy Christopher Stone pulled up to the accident scene and, after a brief standoff, convinced Johnson to surrender.

No deputies or vehicles were struck by gunfire.

In addition to the original charges, Johnson was charged with attempted felony murder and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.
