Wesley Chapel Man Killed In Crash On Wesley Chapel Boulevard

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL -- A 24-year-old Wesley Chapel man died Thursday morning following a crash at Wesley Chapel Boulevard and Gateway Boulevard.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 7:42 a..m., Adam Thomas Gendreau was driving a Toyota Corolla east on Wesley Chapel Boulevard approaching Gateway Boulevard.

Tameka Macherrie Smart, 38, of Wesley Chapel, driving a Kia Optima, was stopped in the left turn lane at Gateway when the Toyota driver lost control, accelerated and drove directly toward her.

Smart attempted to drive out of the Toyota's path but was unsuccessful. The front of the Toyota struck the rear of the Kia. The Toyota then continued east and collided with several trees and bushes before landing in a retention pond.

The driver died at the scene. Smart and her 4-year-old son, Marley, were not injured.

The name of the driver is pending notification of next of kin.
