Woman Found Dead in Burning Lutz Apartment

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s detectives and state officials are investigating a Friday morning apartment fire in Lutz that has left one woman dead.

The blaze was reported around 11:30 a.m. at the 5741 Sailfish Drive, Building 8, apartment, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue reported in an email to media.

When fire crews arrived on scene, the blaze was contained to a single apartment.

“During the primary search a deceased adult female was located,” the email said.

While the fire was quickly put out, some nearby apartments suffered smoke and water damage.

Hillsborough County and state investigators have now taken over the case, Jessica Coy, spokeswoman for Hillsborough County Fire Rescue wrote in the email.

It is unclear at this time how the woman died or if foul play is expected. Officials have also not yet released her name.
