Zephyhills Man Charged In Double Fatal Crash

A 36-year-old Zephyrhills man was arrested Monday in connection with a crash last July that claimed the lives of two 24-year-old women.

ZEPHYRHILLS, FL -- A 36-year-old Zephyrhills man was arrested Monday in connection with a crash last July that claimed the lives of two 24-year-old women.

On July 29 at 2:07 a.m., a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue driven by Hannah Marie Nelson, 24, of Dade City was headed west on State Road 54 approaching Evans Street.

Jonathan Ryan Haynes, who was driving a G37 Infiniti, came up behind the Oldsmobile at a high rate of speed and collided with the rear of Nelson's car.

Nelson's car was flipped around, left the road and overturned.

Nelson and passenger Ashley Aaron Plummer, 24 of Zephyrhills were killed. Two other passengers in Nelson's car, Jade Mackinzie Bruce, 21, of Zephyrhills, and Maddison Paige Bruce, 17, of Zephyrhills sustained serious injuries.

A test confirmed that Haynes had a blood-alcohol content of 0.23. A BAC of .08 is considered legally drunk in Florida.

Haynes has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of DUI manslaughter, two counts of DUI injury, two counts of DUI property damage, DUI and careless driving.
