Two Miami police officers have tested positive for the new coronavirus and were placed in self-quarantine.

MIAMI, FL — Two Miami police officers have tested positive for the new coronavirus and were placed in self-quarantine.
"They were placed into self-isolation immediately upon reporting symptoms and were tested promptly," said Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina in a statement released Thursday afternoon. "Both officers are in good spirits and are currently experiencing only mild effects from the virus."
Colina placed himself in self-quarantine after being exposed to the virus through Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, who tested positive after meeting with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, and Fabio Wajngarten, the Brazilian president's press secretary. Wajngarten later tested positive for the illness.

Colina said his agency has a "robust screening and reporting" process in place to minimize the exposure of employees and the general public.
"The Miami Police Department is committed to supporting both officers through the recovery process and will take all possible measures to minimize the risk of secondary exposures," Colina added in the statement.
