Miami Boat Rescue: 2 Cling To Capsized Vessel

WATCH NOW: The 21-foot boat flipped over in a strong current.

KEY BISCAYNE, FL — Two men were found clinging to the side of their 21-foot boat on Monday when the vessel capsized in a rough current.

"The 21-foot center console vessel capsized after its engine stalled and the strong current flipped it over, leaving both men struggling in the water," Erika Benitez of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told Patch. The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. a couple of miles from Crandon Marina. (Sign up for our free Daily Newsletters and Breaking News Alerts for the Miami Patch.)

"A diver from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue quickly jumped in the water after one of the two men said he was unable to swim to safety," Benitez explained. "The diver assisted both men and brought them on board of the MDFR boat."

In addition to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Fireboat crews, the U.S. Coast Guard and Miami first responders also assisted in the recuse.

"Once on board, both men were checked out by MDFR crew and were brought to Crandon Park Marina," said Benitez. "The boat was retrieved by a tow company also on scene."
