$32M In Cocaine Seized, 6 Suspects Arrested Near Miami: Coast Guard

The U.S. Coast Guard interdicted the cocaine in the Caribbean Sea during two separate seizures.

MIAMI — At least 2,450 pounds of cocaine, worth about $32.2 million, was found offshore Miami while six suspected smugglers were arrested Tuesday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

Crews with the Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell interdicted the cocaine in the Caribbean Sea during two separate seizures, the Guard said.

The Department of Justice will prosecute the suspected smugglers, the Guard said.

The Guard did not say where specifically the cocaine was coming from or where it was going.

“Thanks to the tremendous efforts of the Coast Guard crews and agency partners involved with this interdiction, Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell brought these suspected smugglers and illicit contraband ashore for prosecution," Lt. Cmdr. Colin Weaver, commanding officer, said in a news release.
