4 Killed, 7 Injured In Shootout Between FL-Registered Boat Passengers, Cuban Border Guards
During a shootout between those aboard a FL-registered speedboat and Cuban border guards, 4 were killed and 7 were injured, officials said.
Cuban border agents shot and killed four people on a speedboat registered in Florida on Wednesday morning, Cuba’s Interior Ministry said in a news release posted to social media by the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C.
The “violating speedboat” was spotted in Cuban waters about 1 nautical mile northeast of the El Pino channel near Cayo Falcones in the Villa Clara province, off Cuba’s north coast, the news release said.
Passengers on the boat opened fire on Cuban border guards approaching the vessel for identification, officials said.

The border guards returned fire, injuring six people on the boat, in addition to the four who were killed.
Those injured were evacuated and received medical assistance.

The commander of the Cuban vessel was also injured in the shootout, officials said.
It’s not known who owns the boat, who was onboard or what it was doing in Cuban waters.
