4-Year-Old Girl Accidentally Shot By Sibling At Miami Home: Police

The girl is in critical condition and "currently fighting for her life" after being accidentally shot by a sibling, Miami-Dade police said.

MIAMI, FL — A 4-year-old girl was critically injured after being accidentally shot by another child Sunday afternoon at a Miami home, according to a Miami-Dade Police Department news release.

Officers and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue workers responded to the home on NW 21st Avenue after the shooting, which happened around 2:30 p.m.

They found the girl with a gunshot wound to the head and she was brought to the Ryder Trauma Center, “where she is currently fighting for her life,” police said.

Investigators learned that another young child that lives in the home — the girl’s sibling — found the gun, which wasn’t secured, in a backpack and shot it in the direction of the girl, hitting her.

There were four children, all siblings, and at least one adult in the home at the time of the shooting, police said.

Detectives learned that Quavanta Ennels, 25, the gun’s owner, is a convicted felon. Under federal law, felons can’t legally own or possess a gun.

Ennels was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
