7 Sickened At Miami Elementary School

A Miami-Dade County Schools spokeswoman said that no students were affected.

MIAMI, FL — Seven employees of Orchard Villa Elementary School were sickened on Wednesday but Miami-Dade school officials said the facility remained open. The employees were taken to a hospital. School Officials did not know what caused the employees to become ill.

"Seven school employees were transported to hospital after feeling ill while in the kitchen located in the cafeteria at Orchard Villa Elementary School," a spokeswoman for Miami-Dade County Public Schools told patch on Wednesday night.

The spokeswoman said that the problem appeared to be confined to the school kitchen.

"Cafeteria was evacuated and bagged lunches were distributed to students in classrooms," the spokeswoman explained.

She said that no students were affected.

"Instructional day continued, no students were affected," she said. "Cause of the issue is still under investigation but appears to be confined to the kitchen."
