Weather forecast:
1. Publix changes open carry policy to only apply for law enforcement officers (wsvn.com) — Publix stores across Miami-Dade are posting new signs asking that only law enforcement officers openly carry firearms inside, reversing the chain’s earlier decision to allow open carry after a 2025 court ruling. The updated policy, now also reflected on Publix’s website, applies to locations in Miami-Dade, Broward, and the rest of South Florida, and could affect how armed customers shop at the popular grocery chain.
2. MDSO searching for man who nearly crashed into detectives in Miami (wsvn.com) — Miami-Dade deputies are searching for a man who allegedly rammed two unmarked cruisers and sped off near Southwest Fourth Avenue and Eighth Street in Miami, leaving detectives unhurt but still looking for him. Residents who recognize the suspect or know his whereabouts are urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers, where anonymous tips could earn a reward of up to $5,000.
3. Cars blocking street (wsvn.com) — A Miami resident on Northeast 81st Street says large exercise classes at a neighbor’s rental home were blocking driveways and blasting loud music early in the morning, disrupting the cul-de-sac. After repeated calls to city agencies, police launched a two‑week observation, issued warnings, and the street has now quieted down, offering a roadmap for other Miami neighbors facing similar parking and noise issues.
4. 3 men and 1 teen arrested in a Miami-Dade robbery sting involving Facebook Marketplace, investigators say (cbsnews.com) — Law enforcement in Miami-Dade arrested four suspects tied to a string of robberies and grand thefts targeting people selling phones and laptops through Facebook Marketplace near NW 6th Avenue and 152nd Street. Detectives linked them to multiple incidents since October and urge residents to use safe exchange zones or police facilities when meeting buyers or sellers arranged online.
5. Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator Presents Riddims Of Graffiti, A Solo Exhibition By Izia Lindsay (sflcn.com) — Miami art lovers can catch “Riddims of Graffiti,” a Caribbean-inspired solo exhibition by Izia Lindsay running May 14–August 14 at DVCAI in Barry University’s library. The show explores Caribbean identity, carnival culture, and graffiti, shaped by Lindsay’s life between Miami, Trinidad and Tobago, and South Dakota, with an opening reception and artist talk scheduled in mid-May.
