11 Injured As Boat Explodes Off Miami Beach, Reports Say

Several of those injured in the explosion at Haulover Sandbar suffered burns; at least 1 child was among the victims, the reports said.

MIAMI, FL — Eleven people were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after a boat explosion north of Miami Beach, according to reports.

The explosion happened about 12:50 p.m. Saturday off the Haulover Sandbar, the Palm Beach Post reported.

More than 25 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission , the Miami Herald reported.

The victims included adults and at least one child, and some were found in the water, some of them with burns and others with traumatic injuries, the Herald report said.

The boat exploded during startup, the boat's captain told Local 10 News. The captain told the outlet it was likely because of a gas leak, and was the “scariest moment” of his life.

Most of the victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, the Herald report said. At least was a child and there were burns on more than 18 percent of the child's body, the report said.

An adult patient had more than 30 percent of his body burned, the Herald reported.

The boat, named the Nauti Nabors, homeports in Sherman, Texas, the Herald report said.
