MIAMI, FL — Andrew and Tristan Tate, the influencer brothers known for their social media broadcasts promoting misogyny and male dominance, have been arrested in Miami on Saturday, British authorities said.
The brothers were arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service on a sealed warrant, the agency told the Associated Press.
The two were being sought by British authorities on multiple charges of rape, and the Crown Prosecution Service said it was seeking extradition of the brothers to Britain to face the charges.
"The CPS has decided to prosecute Andrew Tate, 39, with seven further counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and 19 additional charges for offences relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography," the British prosecutors said.
Tristan Tate, 38, has been charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, British prosecutors said.
The incidents happened between July 2010 and August 2017, the Crown Prosecution Service said, adding the brothers had been arrested by the U.S. Marshal Service.
Tristan Tate had 11 previous charges against him in Britain including three counts of rape, six counts of actual bodily harm and two counts of human trafficking, British prosecutors said, and Andrew Tate had 10 previous charges, including three counts of rape, four counts of actual bodily harm, two counts of human trafficking and one count of controlling prostitution for gain.
The new charges relate to four new victims, British prosecutors said, in addition to three previous victims.
The brothers have denied the charges and had been fighting in British courts to be told the names of their accusers. Their legal challenge was recently thrown out, the Guardian reported.
Joseph McBride, an attorney representing the Tate brothers, called the new charges filed in Britain "filth and slander" intended to derail defamation lawsuits filed by the brothers in the U.S., McBride told the Associated Press.
The brothers are dual U.S. and British citizens and moved to Romania in 2016. They were charged there in December 2022 with human trafficking, rape and forming an organized criminal group, and arrested in Romania, the Guardian report said.
They returned to the United States last year, NBC reported.
They are known for their social media presence that pushes a view of women as objects of pleasure and nothing more, and seeks to undermine feminism. Andrew Tate in particular has millions of followers.
