AZ Man Smuggled Diamonds Through Miami International Airport: U.S. DOJ

An Arizona man smuggled loose and rough, uncut diamonds through Miami International Airport in November, federal authorities said.

MIAMI, FL — An Arizona man faces federal charges after smuggling diamonds through Miami International Airport, according to a United States Department of Justice news release.

Guilherme Cipriani, 41, of Scottsdale has been charged with smuggling diamonds into the United States and providing a false statement to a federal agency.

On Nov. 10, 2022, he smuggled 14 loose cut diamonds and 53 rough uncut diamonds into the U.S. through the airport, according to the indictment. Officials did not give an estimated worth of the gemstones.

He also lied to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent at MIA that he was not transporting commercial merchandise into the contract and hadn’t spent any money on commercial merchandise while abroad, the DOJ said.

Homeland Security agents arrested Cipriani in Arizona, where he made his first court appearance to face the Miami federal indictment.
