‘A Bad Day’ For Speeding Driver In FL Keys: Monroe County Sheriff

A driver on U.S. 1 in the Florida Keys was clocked at 71 mph in a 45-mph zone, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

FLORIDA KEYS — A driver accused of fleeing from a deputy while speeding through the Florida Keys told authorities that “he was having a bad day” when they finally caught up with him on Wednesday, according to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Ronald Anthony Bennett, 20, of Tavernier was charged with fleeing and eluding.

He was clocked driving a pick-up truck 71 mph in a 45-mph zone on U.S. 1 near mile marker 90 just after 9 p.m. He sped up after a deputy tried to pull him over, MCSO said.

Bennett turned onto Woods Avenue and then Gardenia Street, where he stopped.

He admitted to fleeing and told deputies that “he was having a bad day.”
