Bomb Threat Evacuates FL Turnpike Service Plaza: FL Highway Patrol

Jewish students on a bus at a FL Turnpike service plaza received a text message bomb threat Friday afternoon, state troopers said.

FORT PIERCE, FL — A Florida Turnpike service center was evacuated Friday afternoon after Jewish students received a bomb threat, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Students from Michael Ann Russell Jewish Community Center were traveling on charter buses when one stopped at the Fort Pierce Service Plaza around 2:15 p.m. Another of their buses stopped at the Fort Drum Service Plaza around the same time.

One of the students at the Fort Pierce rest area approached a state trooper and showed them a text message reference to a bomb threat on one of the buses.

Both service centers were evacuated and swept by explosive K-9 teams, FHP said. No bombs were found.

Investigators are looking into the source of the threat.
