In the ongoing fight against drunk driving and drugged driving, <a href="https://www.walklikemadd.org/fortlauderdale" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">MADD Southeast Florida</a>will host the <a href="https://give.madd.org/event/2026-move-with-madd-and-madd-dash-fort-lauderdale-5k/e733214" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">15th Annual UKG &amp; Salah Foundation Hero’s Pride Move With MADD &amp; MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K Presented by the Florida Panthers &amp; the Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County</a> on Sunday, April 26. Thousands of walkers, runners, strollers, wheelchair athletes, dogs and supporters of all ages will come together in downtown Fort Lauderdale to take steps to raise awareness and funds to end impaired driving for good. The in-person race will start near Huizenga Plaza at 7:30 a.m. Awards will be given for top fundraiser, top team (private and corporate), as well as overall and age-group awards for 5K finishers.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the annual event will debut its rebrand as Move With MADD &amp; MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K in 2026, reflecting expanded momentum in the fight against impaired driving and deepened community engagement. Heather Geronemus founded Move With MADD and MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K Founder and Chairperson after her late father, Dr. Robert Perry Geronemus, was struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2009.

Move With MADD &amp; MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K is a community-driven 5K that raises awareness about drunk and drugged driving and underage drinking while uniting community members around MADD’s mission. Since it was established in 2011, Move With MADD &amp; MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K has raised more than $4.2 million that stays in the South Florida community to save lives and support victims of drunk driving, making it the most successful grassroots fundraiser in the history of MADD. Every dollar donated remains in South Florida to provide victim services and prevention education at no cost. 

Festivities will include children’s activities, an awards ceremony, live musical performances, and vendor/educational booths. The event will be attended by dignitaries, including Move With MADD and MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K Founder and Chairperson Heather Geronemus; Honorary Chairperson Colonel Nichole Anderson, Undersheriff of Broward Sheriff’s Office; Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony; Sgt. Ryan Clifton from Broward Sheriff’s Office; Sgt. Trevor Thomas from Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s DUI Unit; and Lt. Indiana Miranda from Florida Highway Patrol. 

MADD is committed to leading prevention efforts with young adults, collaborating with law enforcement to keep roads safe from impaired drivers, as well as advocating for stricter sentencing and stronger laws, including the HALT Law that mandates anti-drunk driving technology in every new car. MADD continues to provide support services to victims and survivors of impaired driving at no charge through victim services specialists and the 24-Hour Victim Help Line.

Renowned soprano Eglise Gutiérrez joins Orchestra Miami for this unforgettable program of Cuban classics and beloved favorites, performed by the String Ensemble of Orchestra Miami under the direction of Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi.

The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami (CCBM) under the artistic direction of Eriberto Jimenez, will present Le Corsaire Suite. This enchanting ballet is based on Lord Byron’s epic poem written in 1814, a romantic story of pirates, maidens, slave merchants, and pashas. 

The Suite is a compilation of the most beloved scenes from the full-length ballet, including:
Le Jardin Animé
Pas d’Esclave,
Grand Pas de Trois des Odalisques
Le Corsaire Pas de Deux
&amp; More

The first performance of Le Corsaire as a ballet was in 1837 at the King's Theatre in London, with choreography by François Albert and music by Nicholas Bochsa. The ballet was later reworked by Joseph Mazilier, whose version premiered in 1856 with music by Adolphe Adam at the Paris Opera, achieving unexpected success. In 1858, Jules Perrot adapted the story again, adding several new dances later on choreographer Marius Petipa created several versions between 1863 and 1899.
