As a superyacht captain and influencer, I use my platform to share my journey and experiences openly, and that includes my journey as a female leader in a male dominated industry. By sharing my story openly and honestly I aim to empower other women to have the courage and ambition to follow their dreams into ANY field. I try to collaborate with other women whenever possible, offer my time when I can as a mentor to women in the industry and to inspire women in any industry to transition their lives by any means needed to live their happiest lives.

What role does social media play in your mission to foster change in the yachting industry?

It wasn’t until I realized that I had people from Italy flying in to see my seminars and someone from France saying that seeing the sea through my eyes gave her the will to live that I realized how powerful of a tool social media truly is. It allows me to reach a wide audience and share important messages about mental health, leadership, education, and the realities of life on a yacht. Through my posts, videos, and interactions with followers, I can raise awareness, provide support, and encourage open discussions about the challenges we face and how to overcome them.

Can you tell us about the impact of your Captain's Classroom content?

The Captain’s Classroom began as a way to combine my love of teaching and my work on board, and it was incredible to see how people reacted to it. It's a series where I share insights and tips for other captains, but the audience for it has been wide ranging, and people really enjoy the behind the scenes look at what a captain does, along with practical advice and personal stories that resonate with many. It's been rewarding to see how this content helps others navigate their own journeys and feel more confident in their roles.

What feedback have you received from your audience about your advocacy work?

When I started, mental health in yachting was not something people were talking about, but I am proud to say I was able to break the silence on this topic, and the feedback from my audience and the industry itself has been overwhelmingly positive. Many people have reached out to share their own stories and express gratitude for my openness and honesty, and they appreciate that I tackle serious issues and provide a relatable and supportive voice. I receive daily direct messages with crew asking for advice about their personal situations on their boats, and this connection with my audience reinforces the importance of my advocacy work and motivates me to continue sharing and supporting others.

How do you balance the glamorous aspects of yachting with the serious issues you address in your advocacy?

Balancing the glamorous aspects of yachting with serious advocacy issues involves being authentic and transparent. I share the beautiful and exciting parts of yachting, but I also make sure to highlight the challenges and behind-the-scenes struggles. It's about showing the full picture and ensuring my audience understands that while yachting certainly does include travel and luxury, it's also a demanding industry that requires attention to mental health and well-being.

What are some key lessons you’ve learned from navigating the world's most luxurious yachts?

As a captain I have learned the importance of resilience, adaptability, and strong leadership. Every day presents new challenges, and being able to think on your feet and lead with confidence is crucial. I've also learned the value of teamwork and communication, as success on a yacht depends heavily on the crew working seamlessly together.

How do you see the future of the yachting industry evolving, especially concerning mental health and diversity?

Since beginning this mission I have seen a growing recognition of the importance of mental well-being, and I believe we'll see more initiatives aimed at providing resources and support for yacht crew and captains. Additionally, efforts to promote diversity and inclusion will hopefully continue, creating a more welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.

How has your time in Miami influenced your perspective on the yachting industry and its culture?

Miami's vibrant and diverse community has exposed me to different viewpoints and experiences, enriching my understanding of the industry's dynamics. It also gave me an appreciation for really amazing Latin food.

Can you discuss any specific mental health initiatives or collaborations you've been involved with in Miami?

I've been involved in several mental health initiatives and collaborations aimed at supporting the yachting community in Miami, South Florida overall and beyond. These include partnerships with local mental health organizations to provide resources and support for yacht crew and captains where we have organized workshops, seminars, and support groups to address mental health challenges and promote well-being within the industry.

What unique challenges and opportunities have you encountered while working in Miami compared to other yachting hubs?

Working in Miami presents unique challenges such as navigating the busy ports and dealing with the intense competition in the yachting industry. However, it also offers incredible opportunities due to the city's status as a major yachting hub. The vibrant yachting community means there is access to diverse resources making it an exciting place to work and grow.

What’s next for you in your career and advocacy work?

Next in my career and advocacy work, I'm focused on expanding my reach and impact. This includes launching new initiatives including a non-profit focused on support for mental health in the yachting industry, and continuing to share my story to inspire others. I'm also working on developing more content, continuing to speak whenever possible to spread my messaging, and exploring new opportunities to collaborate with organizations that share my mission. Ultimately, I want to continue making a positive difference in the yachting community and beyond.
