City Leaders Unveil “Miami Forever Climate Ready” Strategy

Miami Forever Climate Ready strategy is a roadmap for building a stronger, more resilient and sustainable future for Miami.

Today, the City of Miami officially unveiled its Miami Forever Climate Ready strategy, a roadmap for building a stronger, more resilient and sustainable future for Miami. City leaders and resilience staff, along with local residents and resilience stakeholders, gathered at City Hall for the rollout event, which included a public breakfast, remarks from Mayor Francis Suarez, City Commissioners Manolo Reyes and Ken Russell, and a formal presentation to the full City Commission. Miami Forever Climate Ready provides an important strategic framework to bolster Miami’s substantial, ongoing resilience efforts.

"The Miami Forever Climate Ready strategy represents yet another tool in our collection of resources to tackle our climatic challenges head on," said Mayor Suarez. "This strategy proposes unique plans of action to combat flooding and other environmental challenges over the next 40 years and sets the foundation for carbon reduction in the City of Miami."

The Miami Forever Climate Ready strategy, as designed, will significantly reduce the increasing risks of flood, heat and storm impacts to the Magic City over the next 40 years. It will also ensure that Miamians continue to be engaged in the resilience process, as they have been since residents were asked to approve the $400 million Miami Forever bond in 2017. Spearheaded by the City's Office of Resilience & Sustainability, the strategy focuses on the following five goal areas that will help Miami achieve resilience to the impacts of a changing climate:
