Miami-Dade County Offers COVID-19 Testing For Homebound Residents

More than 70,000 COVID-19 tests were given Monday —​ the highest number of tests ever administered in a single day in Miami-Dade County.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — As the demand for COVID testing continues to grow, Miami-Dade County is now offering at-home testing for homebound residents and opened a new testing site in Miami Springs.

Miami-Dade saw an all-time high with more than 70,000 tests administered in a single day on Monday, the county said in a news release.

COVID-19 cases have jumped throughout Florida in recent weeks with Southeast Florida hit the hardest by the surge.

The weekly COVID-19 report from the Florida Department of Health showing 298,455 new cases, a new case positivity rate of 26.5 percent and 32 deaths reported in Florida from Dec. 24-30. New data is released every Friday afternoon by the state.

During this time, there were 98,437 new cases and a 27.3 percent new case positivity rate reported in Miami-Dade County.

Nearby, Broward County added 48,018 new cases during this period and saw a 31.7 new case positivity rate, while Palm Beach County saw 24,488 new cases and a 30.6 percent new case positivity rate.

“Getting tested if you have symptoms or have been exposed is essential to preventing the spread, and that’s why we have worked so hard to keep free testing widely available and to expand to meet the recent surge in demand,” Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said. “It’s especially important that we make these essential services available to our most vulnerable, including those who are homebound. I'm very proud of all the workers who have made it possible for thousands of our residents to get tested during this surge and are now going above and beyond to bring testing directly to people’s homes.”

Homebound COVID-19 testing in Miami-Dade County is available to residents of any age who have symptoms or were exposed are not able to leave their homes by any means, the county said.

Call 305-614-1716 to schedule a homebound testing appoint. The call center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The new testing site is located at Miami Springs Community Center, 1401 Westward Drive, Miami Springs, FL 33166. It will be open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Last week, Miami-Dade County also opened three new sites and expanded the schedule at the Zoo Miami testing site to 24 hours. The sites that opened last week are:

  • I-75 Park & Ride at I-75 and NW 186 Street (Miami Gardens Drive), Hialeah. Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Youth Fairgrounds at Tamiami Park, 10901 SW 24th Street, Miami. Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Dolphin Station Park & Ride, 11897 NW 12 Street, Miami. Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
