Customer Fatally Shoots Another In Checkout Line Dispute At Coral Gables Publix: Report

A man has been charged with second-degree murder after fatally shooting another customer during an argument at Publix, reports said.

CORAL GABLES, FL — A dispute in the checkout line at a Coral Gables Publix turned deadly when one customer shot another during an argument Saturday night.

Osmel Lugo-Gutierrez, 51, was charged with second-degree murder with a weapon and is being held without bond, the Miami Herald reported.

He’s accused of fatally shooting another man, 50-year-old Franklyn Jose Pineyro, at the Publix grocery store at 106 Ponce de Leon Blvd. around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday while they were in the customer service line.

Pineyro was purchasing lottery tickets when Lugo-Gutierrez approached him from behind and the two began arguing, according to reports.

Surveillance footage from the grocery store shows Pineyro lunging toward Lugo-Gutierrez with him arm extended and then losing his balance, the Herald reported. Lugo-Gutierrez stepped back and pulled a gun from his waistband, shooting Pineyro in the chest.
