Decision Expected Sunday On Reopening Miami-Dade Schools
Miami-Dade County schools will decide by noon Sunday when classes will resume following Hurricane Irma.

MIAMI, FL — Miami-Dade County school officials will decide by noon Sunday when they will be able to reopen schools. Officials said they continue to be "optimistic" that classes can resume on Monday. Broward County schools announced earlier Saturday that they plan to reopen Monday.

"Following Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ 5 p.m. emergency management meeting, we continue to be optimistic about a Monday re-opening of our schools," Miami-Dade school officials said on Saturday. "An announcement will be made prior to noon tomorrow after reviewing final reports from school maintenance work done overnight, results from a second dry run of bus routes that experienced accessibility issues on Saturday, and an update on power restoration from FPL, which currently reports two schools without power," school officials added.

Broward County school officials said that they planned to contact state education officials to determine how to handle the seven lost school days as a result of Hurricane Irma.
