FIU Law Grads Score Big Win On Bar Exam

Find out how your law school stacked up in July's Florida Bar examination.

MIAMI, FL — Study harder Florida law grads. FIU is making your school look bad. Florida International University's College of Law lays claim to the top state bar exam passing rate in Florida for the third straight July examination period.

Out of the 123 FIU grads who sat for the July exam, 87.8 percent passed. The University of Miami finished with the second highest percentage of passing graduates. UM had an 84.2 percent passing rate out of the 196 grads who sat for the exam. Florida State University had the third highest percentage of passing grads with 83.9 percent out of 174 who took the exam.

Florida Coastal School of Law graduates finished last among Florida's 11 law schools with a 47.7 percent passing rate among the 132 who sat for the exam. Next lowest were Ave Maria School of Law with a 51.3 percent passing grade out of 39 who sat for the exam, and Florida A&M University College of Law which also had a 51.3 percent pass rate out of 78 grads who sat for the exam.

Graduates of non-Florida schools had a 64.2 percentage passing rate out of 397 who sat for the exam.

"With a passage rate of 87.8 percent on the exam that allows them to practice law in the state, FIU Law graduates surpassed the statewide average passage rate of 71.3 percent by 16.5 percentage points," according to FIU. "FIU Law graduates previously earned an 87.5 percent pass rate on the July 2016 exam and an 89 percent pass rate on the July 2015 bar exam – each time the highest among the state’s 11 law schools."
