Florida 2-Year-Old Nearly Drowns, Fighting For Life

A relative found the 2-year-old girl floating face down in the pool, unresponsive. She's fighting life-threatening injuries in the hospital.

POMPANO BEACH, FL — A toddler is facing life-threatening injuries after being found floating in a swimming pool in Pompano Beach, according to a report. The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported the girl is about 2 years old.

Emergency responders arrived soon after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to find a relative giving the girl CPR. She was found floating face down in the pool, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue spokeswoman Sandra King said, according to the Sentinel.

Despite the relative's efforts, the toddler was unresponsive, King said. She was taken to Holy Cross in Fort Lauderdale and will be transferred to another nearby children's hospital.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said there were at least 25 Florida children who died by drowning in pools over the summer of 2017, by far the most of any state. There were at least 163 such deaths nationwide.
