German Man Stranded On Island In Bahamas For 3 Days: U.S. Coast Guard
Crews rescued a 64-year-old German man who was stranded on Cay Sal, Bahamas for three days, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

BAHAMAS — A 64-year-old German man stranded on Cay Sal, Bahamas for three days was rescued Friday by the crew of U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Paul Clark.
He was brought to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force in good health, the Coast Guard said in a news release.
Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders were notified by Coast Guard Station Miami Auxiliary aircrew about a disabled sailboat firing flares near Cay Sal.

A Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew found the man stranded on the island and dropped supplies for him, including food, water and a radio for communication. He told the crew he’d been stranded for three days after his boat became disabled.
The Key West watchstanders then sent the Cutter Paul Clark to the island to rescue the man.

“We’re proud to have saved this man’s life. This case serves as a perfect example of why you must have the proper safety equipment on your vessel,” Petty Officer 3rd Class Dev Craig, a Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstander, said. “Without seeing the flare, the case may not have had a successful outcome.”
